The Motherboard
First, this is the ALR diagram of the board (credit once again to ALR).
(My girlfriend has my digital camera in Paris, so you will just have to live with web cam shots...)
Note such goodies as dual PCI buses, Adaptec 7880 Fast SCSI-2 controller built in, EISA, plus the standard IDE and floppy connectors. Now note the size, which is huge!
Note on the PCI bus: an older STB Lightspeed PCI video card would not work in this machine. We don't know why but both a Matrox Mystique and generic S3 were much happier.
A great piece of information from Gary Lum. Turns out that just before ALR was bought by Gateway, they partnered with Unisys. Unisys used the 6x6 and other motherboards to make some of the Aquanta servers. The upshot of all of this is even more information about these boards. The 6x6 was the Aquanta HS/6 or HR/6 (tower or rack) and is information is available here and here. Anyone interested in trying the bios upgrade?
More notes:
EDC = Error Correction and Detection. There is an LED located on the motherboard to indicate this. Also, there is reset switch connector at the top of the board.
There is no header on this board for a keyboard. It lives on a special card in one of the slots.
