The Case

This is the topic that I've seen the most threads on the newsgroups. The simple answer is to find a surplus case, the last one I saw on eBay went for around a grand each. For most of us, that really isn't an option (if I spent a grand on a case, I'd have to live in it!) Your other two options are to find another huge case and make it work, or make one from the ground up. For the most part we have chosen to go with the second option and will pass on the information as we get it done.

Case update from brer... (thanks man!)

"Got some info on cases. First of all, forget about about any standard at full tower case. None of them will be big enough. For those who don't want to screw around the Supermicro server cases at $600 will fit the boards. For the majority of buyers, the cheapest way to go, will be scrap dealers with old mainframe or server cases. I picked up a 386 server case from a scrap dealer big enough for the quad 6 board with power supply and floppy for $20. The problem with this is, each purchase must be reviewed carefully as any cases that will fit the ALR 6x6 will be a one shot deal."

We are assuming that he is referring to the SC801, but unless there is something I am missing in the bottom of the case, I don't see the power supplies fitting as well.  Anyone tried one of these cases?

Update:  As I stated on my opening page, we have a solution.  Pictures and such will follow, but it was quite the task to make it everything we were looking for.  Other then perhaps another fan, we think we found the machine we were looking for.
